Investing in alternative energy sources for a CLEANER future
In Malaysia, the need to switch to renewable energy is becoming increasingly vital. Rising fossil-fuel costs, carbon emissions and depleting mineral resources are today’s clarion calls for organisations within the country to commit to change.
Apex gets this urgency, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, has set out on a mission to bring sustainable and stable Solar Hybrid Power to rural areas within the country. Far removed from urban centres due to distance and challenging terrain, diesel generators used to be the only means of power supply in these remote areas.
Our latest undertaking, the Sabah Remote Rural School Solar Hybrid Project, harnesses the power of the sun to bring energy to schools that are not connected to the grid. Beginning with a successful programme involving 12 schools in Kalabakan, Tawau in 2007, Apex has gone on to implement the technology in hundreds of school throughout Sabah, helping provide the most basic requirement for modern education: sustainable electricity.
An affordable and environmental-friendly alternative to diesel, the Solar Hybrid project is our contribution to communities in need. We will keep incorporating green technology in our future power generation plans and expanding its outreach far and wide.
At the heart of HIGH SPEED telecommunications
Access to new high-speed digital services is generating a stepchange in business performance and consumer trends across the globe. Apex has been a huge supporter of the nation’s telecommunications growth, starting early with the provision of analogue transmission systems and moving into the provision of high end managed digital networks for leased circuits.
Noting the increasing demand for greater and faster connectivity in a globalised society, Apex has moved decisively to invest in a more flexible and better managed bandwidth from long distance, trunk network environments to the last mile, or access network environments.
We have more than 15 years’ experience in providing expert consultancy, design, installation, configuration and troubleshooting for nationwide networks. Our customers include Telekom Malaysia Berhad, TM International (now known as Axiata), CELCOM and various other heavyweights from the Government and private sectors.
The ability to inituitively understand market trends and adjust to changing demands has enabled Apex to make great strides in the local telecommunications industry, including being granted the following two key licences from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC):
Answering the nation’s call to roll out high speed broadband networks, Apex recently became the first supplier of Fibre To The Home (FFTH) equipment to Telekom Malaysia under its High Speed Broadband Project (HSBB). We are also branching out overseas and responding to the explosion of the broadband business in Indonesia, where we are in the midst of constructing a Submarine Cable System to ease our neighbour’s World Wide Web (www) connectivity. This infrastructure broadband connectivity is designed also to complement specifically in Medini, Iskandar Development Region (IDR).

IBS – The Latest Development Stepchange Currently, Apex is helping drive the Government’s latest Industrialised Building System (IBS) Roadmap 2003 - 2010, which is the blueprint document for the industrialisation of the Malaysian construction sector. The IBS is a modern method of construction where structural components are manufactured or prefabricated in a factory, on or off site, transported and assembled into a structure, thereby minimising labour and time wastage.
Among our recent IBS undertakings include the design, construction and completion of 34 school extensions and 4 new schools in Johor Darul Takzim for the Ministry of Education in mid 2008. An ongoing endeavor, Apex has spared no efforts in bringing IBS to its drawing tables, and is proud to be part of the country’s development stepchange.

Contracted by the government to equip the science labs of every primary and secondary school in Malaysia, Apex is a major provider of high-tech teaching tools. We provide institutions of learning (e.g., schools,polytechnics, technical training centres, colleges and universities) with the latest laboratory equipments, and are backed by a network of local and international equipment suppliers from Europe, the USA, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Australia.
Our expertise lies in supplying the total package, customised to meet the needs of different establishments. From installation of new scientific equipment, to commissioning and training of personnel on how to use specific tools, right up to after-sales servicing, Apex covers all bases. In line with our Ministry of Education’s new policy to uphold Bahasa Malaysia (BM) as the national language and strengthen English (BI) as a second language in schools across the nation, Apex is also working to supplement the current curriculum with new BM and BI courseware. Pushing forward the national DIGITALISATION drive
Imagine if every home and organisation in the country could receive better transmission. Information would be transferred easier, knowledge grasped faster, and society would have a level playing field to grow.
Apex is working hard to upgrade the nation’s broadcasting and wireless technologies. In our aim for better-quality picture and higher capacity transmission, we have undertaken various projects to enhance local television and radio capabilities for the Government of Malaysia as well as semi-government organisations.

Apex is also proud to have been associated with RTM in upgrading its systems to deliver enhanced quality signals for the 1998 Commonwealth Games staged for the first time in Asia, here in Kuala Lumpur. In July 2002, Apex was selected by RTM to conduct the first ever trial to apply Digital Terrestial TV (DVB-T) in the Klang Valley.
DVB-T is the technological evolution from analogue (satellite dish or cable connections) to advanced aerial broadcasts. Currently, many developed countries have decided to cease all analogue television transmissions by the year 2012 and switch to DVB-T. Our government has, likewise, proposed analogue shutdown in phases from 2008, finalising in 2015.
Apex is playing an active role in this national digitalisation drive. Backed by years of experience and successful national project implementations, and with a finger on the the pulse of the rapidly evolving technological landscape, we aim to keep improving the country’s Broadcasting and Wireless systems to be on par with global standards.

Our office in Kuala Lumpur is fully automated to issue tickets on behalf of 20 airlines.

Our Growth
Apex Communications Sdn Bhd, formerly known as Apex Petroleum Sdn Bhd was founded in 1989 by a civil engineer-turned-businessman Tan Sri Datuk Abdullah bin Ali. In 1992 however - and due to the rapid development of the telecommunications, broadcasting and IT industries in Malaysia - the organization undertook a restructuring exercise, focusing instead on delivering communications products, quality systems and services to an established clientele range. To reflect its new business goals and strategies, the organization was renamed Apex Communications Sdn Bhd in 1992. The Company continues to serve the burgeoning demands of these converging industries through the supply, creation, installation and commissioning of a comprehensive range of communications equipment. It has grown by leaps and bounds to become a supplier of telecommunications equipment to major telco operators. Apex Communications Sdn Bhd is also one of the largest providers of laboratory equipment to local schools under the Ministry of Education. Through its vast construction projects, the Company has been recognized by the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development (PKK) as a Class A Contractor, and by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) as a G7-civil contractor. The Group continues to expand its foray into diverse fields of growth.
At the helm of the Apex Communications Sdn Bhd is a dynamic hands-on management team comprising the executive chairman and executive directors. The Company currently employs about 600 employees, a majority of which consists of professional and technical staff, to operate and manage various business transactions.
At Apex, we are well aware of the fact that our industry involves one of rapid change and competition. And so, we have in place ongoing training and development programmes to keep our people abreast with global developments, and prepared for tomorrow’s challenges.
